Hidden in Plain Sight: When a Hayman In-Wall Safe Is the Right Move

WS7 E - Hayman In-Wall Safe

You’ve got a condo, a small apartment, or a home with limited floor space. A floor safe isn’t going to happen. A freestanding safe dominates any room you put it in. And you don’t need 40 gun storage positions — you need a compact, hidden place for a few high-value items: cash reserve, jewelry, a backup firearm, passports, sensitive documents.

The Hayman in-wall safes answer that specific need. They install inside the wall cavity — between studs for the WS7 E, or inside CMU block for the WS6 C — and come out flush with drywall. Hang a picture or mirror over the door and the safe effectively vanishes.

Who a Hayman in-wall safe is right for

  • Condo and apartment owners with limited floor space and landlord restrictions on structural modification
  • People who want concealment — a safe nobody sees is a safe nobody attacks
  • Master bedroom valuables storage — jewelry, cash, passports within reach but hidden
  • Home office document storage — sensitive business papers, client files, legal documents
  • Vacation homes where visible safes are burglary magnets during off-season
  • Second-home short-term rentals (Airbnb, VRBO) where owners need secure storage for renter-inaccessible items
  • Retirement homes and assisted living where residents want personal valuables hidden in their unit

The two in-wall options

Brevard construction mostly falls into two wall types: interior 2×4 stud walls (drywall on both sides, framing in between) and CMU block walls (concrete masonry, common in Florida exterior walls and some interior partition walls in older construction). Hayman makes an in-wall safe for each.

WS7 E — $560 (stud wall)
Designed for 2×4 interior walls. Fits between standard 16″ on-center studs. Electronic keypad entry. Perfect for a bedroom, closet, or hallway wall. Holds jewelry, small documents, cash, a small handgun. Depth is 3.75″ to fit in a 2×4 cavity without protruding into the adjacent room.

WS6 C — $1,350 (CMU block wall)
Designed for concrete masonry unit (concrete block) walls. Heavier-duty construction because CMU walls can support it. Combination dial lock. Larger capacity than the WS7 E — good for a real home office, small business, or residential safe room. Common in Florida garage walls or dedicated safe rooms.

What you get in an in-wall safe

  • Compact flush-mount design — protrudes into the wall, not the room
  • Electronic keypad (WS7 E) or mechanical dial (WS6 C)
  • Steel construction with anti-pry framing
  • Shelving inside — adjustable in larger models
  • Installs between studs (WS7) or block cells (WS6)
  • Hidden-by-picture capability — the door is flush-ready for a picture, mirror, or access panel to cover it
  • Lifetime Hayman warranty

Where to install

Placement is half the value of an in-wall safe. Best locations:

  • Master bedroom — behind a piece of wall art at bedside or dresser height
  • Walk-in closet — behind a mirror or wall decoration
  • Home office — behind a piece of art or a whiteboard
  • Hallway — behind a painting, discrete and easy to access from multiple rooms
  • Dedicated safe room or laundry room — utility space burglars don’t prioritize

Avoid:

  • Visible wall above dressers or desks where the outline would be obvious
  • Exterior walls where plumbing or electrical runs interfere
  • Garage walls with significant temperature/humidity swings (pick the WS6 in CMU instead)
  • Rented walls unless you have landlord approval — this is permanent modification

When an in-wall safe is NOT the right choice

  • You need significant storage capacity. In-wall safes are compact — small cash, jewelry, a few documents. For real storage volume, use a DynaVault or MagnaVault EX.
  • You need fire protection. Most in-wall safes have limited or no fire rating. For fire-protected valuables, use a freestanding fire safe.
  • You want rapid-access home defense. For defense firearms, the Minuteman is purpose-built (different category of in-wall).
  • You rent and can’t modify walls. Talk to landlord first — installation is permanent.
  • You want gun storage. Neither WS7 E nor WS6 C is designed for long-gun storage. Use a BlackHills or Ozarks.

Florida-specific considerations

Block wall opportunities. Many Florida homes have CMU interior partition walls in garages, bathrooms, or as hurricane-hardened safe rooms. The WS6 C takes advantage of this construction — CMU is dramatically harder to attack than stud walls, so a WS6 is substantially more secure than a WS7 given equivalent size.

Humidity in exterior walls. Florida exterior walls often have condensation and moisture issues. We never install in-wall safes in exterior walls unless moisture barriers are intact. Interior walls (bedroom, hallway) are nearly always better.

Hurricane safe rooms. Newer Brevard homes sometimes have code-compliant safe rooms (usually the master closet or a reinforced interior bathroom). An in-wall safe in a safe room combines personal security + valuables security into one hardened location.
