Sometimes a customer calls about a lock job and it turns into something a lot more useful than just swapping hardware. That was exactly the case with this recent install in Brevard County. The customer had an older deadbolt that needed replacing, but what they really wanted was control — the ability to let family members in remotely, grant access to emergency services if something ever happened, and never worry about a lost key again.
The answer was the Lockly Secure Pro — one of the best smart locks on the market, and one we stock and install regularly here at Key-En-Lock.
Out With the Old

First step was removing the old deadbolt and assessing the door. The existing bore hole and strike plate were in good shape, which made for a clean install. The Lockly Secure Pro is designed to fit standard door prep, so we had it mounted and secured quickly.
Installing the Lockly Secure Pro

The Lockly Secure Pro features a patented PIN Genie® touchscreen that randomizes the number positions every time, making it nearly impossible for someone to guess your code by watching your finger pattern. It also includes a fingerprint reader, a physical key backup, and full WiFi connectivity for remote access.
Mechanically the install went smoothly. The real work began with the WiFi setup.
Working Through the Spectrum WiFi Setup
Here’s something that comes up more often than people expect — the Lockly app requires a 2.4GHz WiFi network to connect the lock’s bridge (the WiFi module). Many modern Spectrum routers broadcast both 2.4GHz and 5GHz on the same network name, and the phone will often grab the 5GHz signal automatically. When that happens, the lock can’t find the bridge during setup.
We worked through it together — separating the networks through the Spectrum router settings and making sure his phone was connected to the 2.4GHz band during the pairing process. Once we got that sorted, the bridge connected immediately and the lock showed up live in the Lockly app.
Getting Set Up With the App

Once the lock was online, we walked through the full app setup on his iPhone. We directed him to keyenlock.com where he scanned the QR code to download the Lockly app directly. From there we set up his owner account, added the lock, and configured his access codes.
The Lockly app lets you create individual eKeys — digital access credentials you can share with family members or other trusted people. Each eKey can be set with time restrictions, so you can give a family member permanent access or a service provider access only during a specific window. You can also see a full access log showing who unlocked the door and when.
Remote Access for Family and Emergency Services
This was the part that mattered most to this customer. He wanted his family members to be able to get in without needing a physical key — and he wanted a plan in place in case of a medical emergency.
With the Lockly app and WiFi connected, he can now:
- Remotely unlock the door from anywhere with his phone — whether he’s at work or across the country
- Share eKeys with family members so they always have access without needing a copy of the physical key
- Grant emergency access — if first responders or a trusted contact ever need to get in, he can unlock the door remotely with a single tap
- See a real-time access log so he always knows who has come and gone
- Set up voice control through Alexa or Google Home integration if he chooses
For anyone who lives alone, has elderly family members at home, or just wants that extra layer of security and convenience, a WiFi-connected smart lock like the Lockly Secure Pro is one of the most practical upgrades you can make to your home.
