Dor-O-Matic Panic Hardware & Exit Devices
Aluminum storefront exit devices, concealed vertical rod systems, and automatic operators. Authorized service for legacy and current Dor-O-Matic hardware across Brevard County.
About Dor-O-Matic (Allegion)
Dor-O-Matic (now owned by Ingersoll Rand / Allegion, sharing a parent with Von Duprin) is one of the dominant names in aluminum storefront exit devices and concealed vertical rod systems. Dor-O-Matic hardware is extremely common on Florida commercial buildings built in the 1980s through early 2000s, and the brand remains in active production for new installs.
Because Dor-O-Matic and Von Duprin now share Allegion as a parent company, many modern Dor-O-Matic components use shared internal parts — making service and parts availability much better than a decade ago. For older Dor-O-Matic devices where a specific part has been discontinued, we cross-reference to current equivalents or recommend upgrading to a compatible Von Duprin or Jackson device.
Key-En-Lock services the full Dor-O-Matic product line across Melbourne, Palm Bay, and Brevard County — rim exit devices, CVR systems, overhead concealed closers, and ADA-compliant automatic door operators.

Available Trims & Lever Options
The trim is the outside hardware attached to the exit device — the lever, pull, thumbpiece, or knob that determines how the door opens from the outside when unlocked. Inside remains the panic bar (for code-compliant free egress). Below are the standard trim options available for Dor-O-Matic exit devices:
| Trim Code | Type | Function | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lever trim | Architectural lever | Key retracts latch | Standard lever trim with key cylinder for outside entry. |
| Pull trim | Storefront pull | Key retracts latch | Architectural pull handle with cylinder — matching storefront aesthetics. |
| Thumbpiece | Thumbpiece trim | Key retracts latch | Classic commercial thumbpiece with key cylinder. |
| Key cyl | Key cylinder only | Key retracts latch | Minimal outside trim — key cylinder only, no lever or pull. |
| EO | Exit only | No outside trim | No exterior hardware at all — emergency egress only. |
| DT | Dummy trim | Aesthetic only | Matching dummy for inactive door of a pair. |
Available Finishes
Finishes are specified using ANSI/BHMA finish codes. The most common finishes for commercial door hardware in Florida are satin chrome (626), satin stainless (630), and oil-rubbed bronze (613). Most trims can be ordered in any of these finishes:
Common Dor-O-Matic Repairs
- 1990 CVR vertical rod won't engage top or bottom latch — internal connection rod wear. Fixable without removing the door.
- 1690 / 2090 push bar stuck retracted — dogging mechanism failure, internal cam replacement.
- OHCC leaking hydraulic fluid onto door frame — full closer replacement on-site. We stock common Dor-O-Matic OHCC equivalents.
- Door rebounds when closing — closing speed or latch speed valve adjustment.
- Automatic operator won't activate — control board, actuator, or sensor diagnosis. We carry common Senior Swing and Astro Swing parts.
- Automatic operator stops mid-swing — obstruction sensor, motor current limit, or control board issue.
- Device handed wrong — original installer put the device on the wrong swing. We re-hand or replace.
Electrification & Access Control Integration
Adding electric latch retraction (EL) or other electrification options turns mechanical Dor-O-Matic devices into access-control-capable entrances. Exit remains code-compliant free egress from the inside, but outside entry becomes scheduled, credentialed, or automated. See our full electrification overview on the main panic hardware page.
- 1690-EL / 2090-EL — Electric latch retraction for rim exit devices. Wires directly into access control.
- 1990 CVR electric variants — Concealed vertical rod EL systems for double-door automated entry.
- Automatic operator integration — Senior Swing and Astro Swing control boards integrate directly with most access control systems. We handle the wiring between the operator and your access control panel.
- Fire alarm release — Automatic operators must release to manual operation on fire alarm under NFPA 101. We verify this wiring on every install.
- Cross-compatibility with Von Duprin — Because Dor-O-Matic and Von Duprin now share a parent company, many EL power supplies and control logic components are interchangeable.
Dor-O-Matic FAQ
Can I still get parts for my older Dor-O-Matic 1690?
Many parts, yes — Allegion continues manufacturing common 1690 components. Some specific discontinued items require cross-reference to current equivalents. If a critical part is unavailable, we may recommend upgrading the whole device to a current Von Duprin 33A or Jackson 1085 that will physically fit the same door. We evaluate case-by-case.
Is Dor-O-Matic a good brand or should I switch?
It's a legitimate commercial brand with decades of service history. For existing installations, we recommend continued service rather than replacement — the hardware works and parts are available. For new installs, we often spec Von Duprin (Allegion's premium line) or Jackson for storefront applications because they have faster parts availability, but Dor-O-Matic is genuinely equivalent hardware.
My Dor-O-Matic automatic door stopped working — can you fix it?
Yes. Senior Swing and Astro Swing operators are field-serviceable. Common failures: dead motion sensor, failed control board, broken actuator arm, dirty or misadjusted activation switches. We diagnose on-site and quote repair or replacement upfront. Replacement of the full operator is rarely necessary — most issues are specific components.
Do Dor-O-Matic devices meet Florida fire code?
Yes — Dor-O-Matic 1690, 2090, and 1990 CVR all have UL-listed fire-rated variants that pass NFPA 101 and Florida Building Code inspection. If the UL label on your existing device is intact and the device is operating properly, it's compliant. If the label is damaged or missing, the fire marshal will flag it regardless of whether the device actually works.
Will my Dor-O-Matic work with a modern access control system?
Yes. Modern EL versions of 1690/2090 wire into PDK.io cloud access control and traditional card-based systems. For older mechanical-only devices, we can either retrofit the EL conversion or pair the mechanical device with an electric strike as a lower-cost alternative.
