Jackson Exit Hardware

Jackson Panic Hardware & Exit Devices

The dominant aluminum storefront exit device. Authorized service for Jackson 1085, 1095, Overhead Concealed Closers, and offset pivots across Brevard County.

About Jackson (ASSA ABLOY)

Jackson Corporation (now part of ASSA ABLOY) specializes in aluminum storefront door hardware — narrow-stile exit devices, overhead concealed door closers, offset pivots, and the related hardware ecosystem that makes aluminum storefront entrances work. If you walk into a commercial building in Florida with a glass storefront door and a push bar, there's a strong chance the hardware is Jackson.

The Jackson 1085 and 1095 rim exit devices are the industry default for aluminum storefront panic hardware. Unlike Von Duprin 99s (which are too bulky for narrow storefront stiles), Jackson devices are purpose-built to fit the 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 inch narrow door stiles common on Kawneer, YKK, and other aluminum frame systems.

Key-En-Lock services Jackson hardware across Melbourne, Palm Bay, and all of Brevard County — from repair and trim replacement to full door rebuild on storefronts that have been abused for 20+ years.

Available Trims & Lever Options

The trim is the outside hardware attached to the exit device — the lever, pull, thumbpiece, or knob that determines how the door opens from the outside when unlocked. Inside remains the panic bar (for code-compliant free egress). Below are the standard trim options available for Jackson exit devices:

Trim Code Type Function Description
185-CYL Key cylinder trim Key retracts latch Standard Jackson key cylinder outside trim — most common on storefronts.
185-TB Thumbturn trim Thumbturn locks/unlocks Inside thumbturn for manual locking — common on lockable office/retail doors.
Lever trim Architectural lever Key retracts latch Architectural lever trim matching door aesthetics — varies by project spec.
Pull trim Storefront pull Key retracts latch Aluminum pull handle matching door hardware — common on commercial entrances.
DT Dummy trim Aesthetic only Dummy pull or lever for matching the pair — no function, exit only from outside.
EO Exit only No outside trim No outside hardware — interior egress only, no exterior entry.

Available Finishes

Finishes are specified using ANSI/BHMA finish codes. The most common finishes for commercial door hardware in Florida are satin chrome (626), satin stainless (630), and oil-rubbed bronze (613). Most trims can be ordered in any of these finishes:

628
Satin aluminum (clear anodized)
710
Dark bronze anodized
711
Medium bronze anodized
712
Light bronze anodized
626
Satin chrome
630
Satin stainless
BLK

Common Jackson Repairs

  • Door sagging, scraping, or dragging — almost always a worn Jackson offset pivot. Replaceable in about an hour without removing the door.
  • Door won't self-close — Jackson OHCC leaking hydraulic fluid or losing tension. We replace the closer from the top rail.
  • Door slams too hard or too soft — OHCC valve adjustment or replacement. On-site tune or swap.
  • 1085/1095 push bar sticking or not latching — internal spring or cam wear. On-site repair with replacement components.
  • Loud clunk when latching — worn latch bolt or damaged rim strike. Replace both for proper alignment.
  • Overhead closer leaking onto the door or floor — closer is dead. Full OHCC replacement on-site in 60–90 minutes.
  • Bottom pivot worn / door drags on threshold — bottom pivot replacement, typically same trip as top pivot inspection.

Electrification & Access Control Integration

Adding electric latch retraction (EL) or other electrification options turns mechanical Jackson devices into access-control-capable entrances. Exit remains code-compliant free egress from the inside, but outside entry becomes scheduled, credentialed, or automated. See our full electrification overview on the main panic hardware page.

  • Jackson 1085-EL / 1095-EL — Electric latch retraction versions for aluminum storefront access control integration.
  • Jackson 1050 Electric Strike — Pairs with mechanical 1085/1095 as a lower-cost alternative to EL conversion. Strike unlocks on credential, device stays mechanical.
  • Request-to-Exit (REX) switch — Required on any electrified storefront for access control integration.
  • Storefront door position switch — Reports open/closed to access control for full door monitoring.
  • Automatic operator integration — Tie Jackson automatic operators into PDK.io or traditional card access for ADA-compliant powered entry.

Jackson FAQ

My storefront door is sagging — is that a Jackson problem?

Almost certainly. 9 times out of 10 a sagging aluminum storefront door is a worn Jackson offset pivot, not a problem with the door itself. The pivot wears from daily use and gravity, eventually letting the door drop. Replacing the pivot (and often the bottom pivot at the same time) restores the door to proper alignment in about an hour.

What's the difference between Jackson 1085 and 1095?

1095 is the upgraded version — same narrow-stile form factor but with improved internal components, more finish options, and better parts interchange with current Jackson trims and electrification kits. 1085 is still in production and perfectly serviceable; 1095 is what we spec for new installs when the customer wants long-term supportability.

Can I install Jackson 1085 on a non-aluminum door?

Technically yes — Jackson 1085 will mount on any door with the right stile width. But Jackson is engineered for aluminum storefronts specifically. On a hollow metal or wood commercial door, a Von Duprin 98 or Falcon 19 is the better-engineered choice. We'll spec the right device for your actual door type.

Does my Jackson overhead closer need to be replaced or can it be rebuilt?

OHCCs are sealed hydraulic units — once they start leaking oil, they're not rebuildable in the field. A slow-opening or hard-closing door can often be fixed with valve adjustment (free within reason), but a leaking closer needs to be replaced. We swap Jackson 20/30/40 series OHCCs on-site in 60–90 minutes.

Do you service Jackson on YKK AP storefront doors?

Yes. YKK AP is one of the Big 3 aluminum framing systems (alongside Kawneer and Vistawall). Jackson hardware is commonly specified on YKK AP doors because the narrow stile dimensions match. We service YKK AP framed storefronts across Brevard County.
