Installed from $295How to Pick the Right Schlage Smart Lock
All three Schlage smart lock lines are secure, durable, and keypad-driven. The differences come down to connectivity and your smart home ecosystem.
Pick Encode if...
You want built-in WiFi with no extra hub. Alexa, Google Home, or Ring integration. Most popular choice for first-time smart lock owners.
Pick Encode Plus if...
You're an iPhone household and want to tap your phone or Apple Watch to unlock with Home Key. Works with Apple Home and Siri.
Pick Sense if...
You want deep Apple HomeKit integration but don't need WiFi (Bluetooth-only works up to ~40 ft from your hub/phone).
Pick BE469 if...
You already run a Z-Wave smart home (SmartThings, Hubitat, Ring Alarm). Solid keypad with Z-Wave integration, no WiFi/cloud dependency.
Pick BE365 if...
You want a keypad-only deadbolt — no app, no WiFi, no subscriptions. Perfect for vacation rentals and second homes.

Hardware Store vs Professional Installation
What you get with professional Schlage install
Buying a Schlage lock at Home Depot or Lowe's is fine — but DIY install is where most homeowners hit problems. Door prep, backset measurement (2-3/8" vs 2-3/4"), strike plate alignment, and cylinder keying are the four places a self-install goes sideways.
- Correct door prep — we enlarge or reduce the bore hole if the existing prep is off-spec
- Strike plate alignment — a misaligned strike is the #1 reason Schlage deadbolts feel "sticky" after install
- Rekey on install — we can rekey your new Schlage cylinder to match your existing house keys, so one key opens everything
- Smart lock provisioning — Encode/Sense/BE469 WiFi and Bluetooth setup, hub pairing, app onboarding, user code programming
- Warranty support — Schlage Limited Lifetime mechanical warranty still covers professionally installed locks
Or, if your existing Schlage hardware is in good condition and you just want new keys, rekeying costs $20 per cylinder — no need to buy new hardware.

Schlage Lock FAQ
How much does Schlage deadbolt installation cost?
A standard Schlage B60 or B62 deadbolt installed runs $110-$195 depending on finish and whether door prep is needed. Grade 1 B80 or B81 runs $150-$225. Smart locks (Encode, Sense, BE469) run $245-$395 installed including WiFi and app setup.
Can you install a Schlage lock I already bought?
Yes. Bring your Schlage box to the appointment or have it on-site. We charge a labor-only installation rate if you supply the hardware. We inspect the lock first to make sure it's the right backset and function for your door.
Can my new Schlage lock use the same key as my other locks?
Yes. We rekey the new Schlage cylinder on-site to match your existing house key so one key opens every door. This is the most common install request in Brevard County — see our lock rekeying service for details.
Is Schlage Encode better than Sense?
Encode has built-in WiFi and works with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Ring out of the box. Sense is Bluetooth with HomeKit support and needs a Schlage WiFi Adapter (sold separately) for remote access. For most homeowners Encode is the simpler setup. For Apple Home households, Sense or Encode Plus.
How secure is Schlage Encode against hacking?
Encode uses AES-128 encryption, rotating codes, and a non-broadcast WiFi pairing method. The physical cylinder is a standard Schlage B60-grade keyed deadbolt, so forced entry resistance is identical to a non-smart Schlage. Like any WiFi device, we recommend updating firmware when prompted.
Can you rekey a Schlage smart lock?
Yes. Every Schlage smart lock (Encode, Sense, BE469, BE365) has a physical keyed cylinder as a backup to the keypad. We rekey that cylinder the same way as any Schlage deadbolt — $20 per cylinder. Keypad codes are separately managed in the Schlage app.
Do you carry Schlage hardware on your truck?
Yes. Our mobile service vehicle stocks the most-requested Schlage B60, B62, B80, F51, and BE365 models in satin nickel, aged bronze, and matte black. For less common handleset styles or the full Encode Plus line, we may need to source from a Brevard County distributor (typically next-day).
What about high-security — Schlage Primus vs Medeco vs Mul-T-Lock?
Schlage Primus is a solid UL437-rated restricted keyway that drops into B-series deadbolts. If you're already in the Schlage ecosystem and want key control without changing your lockset footprint, Primus is the right pick. For higher-security platforms see Medeco or Mul-T-Lock.
