Transponder Keys — Brevard County, FL
Most cars made after 1997 use a transponder key with a chip the immobilizer must recognize. Key-En-Lock cuts and programs transponder keys on-site for virtually all makes and models — no dealer, no tow, no wait.
It's Not Just a Key — It's a Radio Transmitter
Inside the plastic head of your car key is a small RFID chip. When you insert the key and turn the ignition, the car's immobilizer sends a radio signal to the chip. The chip responds with a unique code — if the code matches, the immobilizer allows the engine to start.
A key that hasn't been programmed will turn the ignition but the engine won't start. That's why cutting alone isn't enough — the chip must be programmed to your specific vehicle's immobilizer before it will work.
Key-En-Lock programs transponder keys on-site using professional-grade automotive key programming equipment — the same technology dealers use, brought directly to you.
Hidden inside the key head — typically glass or epoxy encased, invisible from outside
Immobilizer System
Reads the chip via antenna ring around the ignition — must recognize the programmed code to allow engine start
All Transponder Key Formats
Standard Transponder Keys
Traditional cut blade with a chip in the plastic head. Common on most vehicles 1997–2010. We cut and program on-site.
Proximity / Smart Keys
Push-button start vehicles use a proximity transponder that communicates continuously. We program replacement smart keys for most makes.
Switchblade / Flip Keys
The folding key with a flip-out blade. Contains both a transponder chip and remote fob in one unit — we program both simultaneously.
High-Security Transponders
Vehicles like BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus use advanced encrypted transponder systems. We handle most high-security platforms — call to confirm your model.
Tibbe & Laser-Cut Keys
European vehicles often use laser-cut (sidewinder) blades combined with transponder chips. We cut and program these on-site.
All Keys Lost
No original key at all? We produce a working transponder key from scratch using your VIN and proof of ownership for most vehicles.

Transponder Key FAQ
My new key turns but the car won't start — what's wrong?
Almost certainly an unprogrammed transponder. A cut key blank will turn the ignition, but without programming the immobilizer blocks the engine. We program the chip to your vehicle on-site.
Can you make a transponder key without the original?
Yes — for most vehicles we can produce a working key from scratch using your VIN and proof of ownership. No original key required.
How long does transponder key programming take?
Typically 30–60 minutes on-site. Some vehicles with advanced security systems take slightly longer.
Is a transponder key the same as a key fob?
Not always. Transponder keys have a chip in the key head that communicates with the immobilizer. Key fobs control remote functions like lock/unlock. Many modern keys combine both — see our key fob programming page.
Do you service my vehicle?
We handle all major domestic and foreign makes. Call (321) 224-5625 with your year, make, and model and we'll confirm on the spot.
