Yale / ACCENTRA 8800 Mortise Locks

ASSA ABLOY ACCENTRA's ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 heavy-duty mortise lock — reinforced stainless steel deadbolt, vandal-resistant trim, free-floating front plate that adjusts 1/8" bevel on install, and field-reversible latchbolt for fast specification changes. Formerly Yale Commercial 8800 Series.

Parent company: ASSA ABLOY (ACCENTRA — rebranded from Yale Commercial 2024)

About Yale / ACCENTRA 8800

The ACCENTRA 8800 Series (formerly Yale 8800, rebranded by ASSA ABLOY in 2024) is a Grade 1 commercial mortise lock engineered for uncompromising strength and installation flexibility. Every 8800 is ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Series 1000 Operational Grade 1 certified and built with heavy-gauge stainless steel construction. The 8800FL with CN escutcheon and the SL8800 variants meet Security Grade 1, giving architects a full Grade 1 Operational and Security spec when needed.

What sets the 8800 apart in real-world commercial installations is the free-floating front plate — the lockbox front adjusts from flat to the standard 1/8" in 2" bevel on the fly, so installers can fit the lock cleanly to the actual door bevel rather than filing or shimming. Paired with the field-reversible latchbolt and standard non-handed strike, the 8800 is one of the fastest Grade 1 mortise locks to install and spec-change in the field. For contractors and facility managers working on fast-track commercial projects, this saves hours per door.

The 8800 also offers heavy-duty vandal-resistant trim that resists kicks, prying, and forced-entry attempts better than most mortise competitors in its price range. ACCENTRA offers the 8800 with multiple lever designs, sectional and escutcheon trim options, and thru-bolt mounting (outside trim held by threaded posts secured from inside). All lever-handle-trim 8800 variants are UL listed for fire door applications up to 3-hour A-label. Key-En-Lock services the full 8800 / ACCENTRA lineup across Brevard County with truck-stocked parts — we are an ASSA ABLOY authorized dealer and handle both the legacy Yale 8800 and the current ACCENTRA 8800 as the same product line.

Electrified & Access Control Variants

Modern commercial buildings tie mortise locks into card readers, mobile credentials, and access control panels. Yale / ACCENTRA 8800 offers a full electrified lineup for card-reader exits, stairwell reentry (IBC 1010.1.9.12), and fail-safe vs fail-secure configurations.

  • SL8800 electrified: Security Grade 1 electrified variant for high-security access-controlled openings.

  • 8800 with 3/4" throw latchbolt approved on single-swing fire doors rated 1-1/2 hours or less, up to 4' wide x 9' tall.
  • Field-reversible latchbolt retains fire rating per ACCENTRA certification.
  • UL does NOT list locks with rabbeted fronts, deadbolt-only configuration, or hold-back feature on latchbolt — verify configuration against UL label.
  • Electrified 8890FL/8891FL retain UL fire rating when wired per ACCENTRA spec.
  • Any retrofit or field modification to a fire-rated opening can affect the fire rating — consult local AHJ (fire marshal) before modifying.
  • Florida Building Code accepts UL 10C labeled mortise locks on A-label fire doors — verify during annual NFPA 80 inspection.

Common Yale / ACCENTRA 8800 Repairs We Service

After 25+ years of commercial locksmith work in Brevard County, these are the failure modes we see most often on Yale / ACCENTRA 8800 mortise locks. All are truck-serviceable — we don't need to take the door off its hinges.

  • Lever sag / return spring failure — internal return spring wear after 5-10 years heavy use. On-site spring kit replacement without door removal.
  • Free-floating front plate loose — front plate mounting screws backed off; re-torque or replace screws on-site.
  • Cylinder won't turn / key binds — cam alignment drift or wafer wear. Cam re-position or full cylinder swap with any 1-1/8" mortise cylinder.
  • Deadbolt stuck extended — door/frame sag misaligning strike. Re-shim strike, adjust hinges, or replace bent bolt.
  • Latchbolt won't retract on lever press — internal drive cam wear or lever hub slip. Lockbody rebuild with ACCENTRA OEM kit.
  • 8890FL electrified lock not releasing — solenoid failure, voltage drop, or relay issue. Test voltage at lock, replace solenoid or full electrified lockbody.
  • 8875 classroom security latchbolt bent — forced-entry attempt. Replace auxiliary deadlocking assembly.
  • Medeco M3 / X4 rekey — factory-authorized dealer rekey. We handle Medeco rekeys on 8800 cylinders in Brevard County.
  • Para® patented keyway rekey — ASSA ABLOY authorized dealer service. On-site Para rekey for 8800 locks.
  • SFIC core swap (if SFIC variant installed) — core swap in 30 seconds. Train facility staff for ongoing rekeys.
  • Vandal repair — replace bent levers, smashed escutcheons, pried strikes. Upgrade to VN vandal-resistant escutcheon for repeat damage.
  • Yale to ACCENTRA transition — the 8800 product line is identical post-rebrand; parts interchange with legacy Yale 8800 lockbodies.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happened to Yale Commercial — is ACCENTRA the same thing?

Yes. In 2024, ASSA ABLOY rebranded its Yale Commercial business to ACCENTRA. The 8800 Series mortise lock, 7000 Series exit devices, and the full Yale commercial lineup are identical products under the new brand name. Parts interchange between legacy Yale 8800 and current ACCENTRA 8800. Packaging changed, part numbers stayed. If you have existing Yale 8800 locks in a building, new ACCENTRA parts fit without modification. The rebrand doesn't affect the residential Yale brand (Yale Locks and Hardware) which remains unchanged.

What's the difference between 8800 and SL8800?

The standard 8800FL with most trim options is Grade 1 Operational only. The SL8800 variant and the 8800FL paired with CN escutcheon meet Grade 1 Security in addition to Operational — reinforced deadbolt, tamper-resistant trim, upgraded internal components. If your spec requires full Grade 1 Operational AND Security, use SL8800 or 8800FL+CN. If Grade 1 Operational is sufficient, the standard 8800 with sectional trim is the cost-effective option.

How does ACCENTRA 8800 compare to Schlage L9000 and Sargent 8200?

All three are Grade 1 mortise locks. ACCENTRA 8800 wins on installation speed — the free-floating front plate and field-reversible latchbolt are faster to install and spec-change than competitors. Schlage L9000 wins on key control depth (Primus XP). Sargent 8200 wins on chassis durability. For contractors on fast-track commercial projects where installation labor per door matters, the 8800 is a strong spec. For maximum key control or durability, L9000 or 8200 may be better.

Is ACCENTRA 8800 code-compliant for Florida K-12 classroom security?

Yes — the 8875 (classroom intruder / F32 classroom security) meets current Florida school hardware security requirements for classroom doors. Deadlocking auxiliary latchbolt prevents shim and card attack from outside; inside lever always free under NFPA 101; UL 3-hour fire rating. For active-shooter-response retrofits in Florida K-12, 8875 is the correct ACCENTRA spec.

Can I replace an existing Yale 8800 with an ACCENTRA 8800?

Yes — direct swap. The lockbody dimensions, strike dimensions, cylinder thread, and trim mounting holes are all identical. An ACCENTRA 8807 fits directly into a door prepped for a Yale 8807. We handle the transition across multi-building portfolios where Yale 8800s have been installed over decades — new ACCENTRA parts are backward-compatible with all existing Yale 8800 prep.

Does ACCENTRA 8800 work with Medeco high-security cylinders?

Yes — the 8800 accepts any standard 1-1/8" mortise cylinder, including Medeco M3 and Medeco X4 UL437 high-security cylinders. This is a common upgrade path: keep the standard ACCENTRA 8800 lockbody, drop in a Medeco cylinder, and you have a high-security UL437-certified opening at lower cost than a full proprietary high-security mortise lock. We are an authorized Medeco dealer and handle the cylinder upgrade on-site.

What access control platforms work with the ACCENTRA 8890FL / 8891FL?

Any standard 12V or 24V DC access control: PDK.io, Openpath, Brivo, S2, Genetec, LenelS2, Honeywell Pro-Watch, Kantech, CCure. The 8890FL is fail-secure for card-reader entries; 8891FL is fail-safe for stairwell reentry and fire corridor doors. RX and LX options add egress logging and latchbolt monitoring. We install the lock, run low-voltage wiring, and hand off to your access control vendor — or handle end-to-end through our PDK.io dealer authorization.
