⚠️ Important — Read Before Changing Any Codes

  • Always keep the door open while programming or changing codes. Test the new code at least 3 times with the door open before closing it. Lockout service due to a bad code change is avoidable and expensive.
  • If your lock is acting up randomly — beeping for no reason, not responding consistently, or rejecting known-good codes — have it serviced or replaced now. A lock that fails completely will cost far more to deal with in an emergency than a planned repair or replacement. Don't wait until you're locked out.

About Lockey Keyless Locks

LockeyUSA manufactures both mechanical pushbutton locks and E-Digital electronic keypad locks. Mechanical models change codes by physically swapping internal tumblers, while E-Digital models are programmed via keypad entry. Both types eliminate the need for traditional keys.

Mechanical Locks — Change the Code

All Lockey mechanical pushbutton locks (1000, 2000, 2800, 2900, 3000, M Series) use the same tumbler-based code change process.

Steps to Change a Mechanical Lockey Code

  1. Using a #2 Phillips screwdriver, remove the four red screws from the cover plate.
  2. Carefully remove the cover plate. Springs are attached — handle with care.
  3. Identify the tumblers: RED = CODE tumblers, BLUE = NON-CODE tumblers, 'C' = CLEAR (do not remove).
  4. Press and HOLD the 'C' BUTTON to release the tumblers.
  5. While holding the C button, remove/add RED (code) and BLUE (non-code) tumblers to create your desired code. Example: 3 Red tumblers = 3-digit code.
  6. Release the 'C' BUTTON to secure the tumblers in place.
  7. Replace the cover plate and secure with the 4 red screws.
  8. TEST your new code before installing or re-installing the lock on the door.
⚠️ CRITICAL: The 'C' button must be pressed and held during the entire time you are removing or inserting tumblers. Failure to do so will damage the lock and void the warranty.
⚠️ Make sure the notched side of each tumbler fits properly into the slot when inserting.

  • Mechanical lock jammed: Verify correct spindle length (3/8" min to 5/8" max extending from exterior of door). Check that the Support Pin is properly installed.
  • Code not working (mechanical): Press 'C' (CLEAR) before every entry attempt. Buttons must be pressed firmly until they click.
  • E-Digital batteries dead: Use the emergency 9V battery contacts on the exterior keypad to power the lock temporarily.
  • Forgot E-Digital Master Code: A factory reset is required. Refer to your specific model manual or contact a locksmith.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Lockey mechanical locks need batteries?

No. Lockey mechanical pushbutton locks are 100% mechanical and require no batteries, electricity, or WiFi. They use a tumbler-based system inside the lock body. Only the Lockey E-Digital electronic series requires batteries (4 AA).

What are the red and blue tumblers inside a Lockey lock?

Red tumblers represent digits that are part of your code. Blue tumblers represent non-code digits. To change your combination, you open the lock body and rearrange which buttons have red vs. blue tumblers. You must hold the 'C' button while swapping tumblers.

What is Passage Mode on a Lockey lock?

Passage Mode keeps the lock in an unlocked state so anyone can enter without a code. To enable: press C, then Y, then enter your code. To disable: press Y, then C. This is useful for businesses during open hours or events.

Why must I press 'C' before entering my Lockey code?

Pressing 'C' (Clear) resets the lock mechanism to a neutral state. If someone previously pressed random buttons, the lock needs to be cleared before your code will work. Always press C first, then enter your combination.
